3.1 Charpy tests
The Charpy anvils consist of a massive cast base body. Test-specific parts, such as supports and anvils, are selected according to the sample spectrum. The anvils, which can have a significant influence on the test results due to surface roughness and radius, are precision CNC machined and 100% measured. ZwickRoell does not offer one-piece anvils, as these cannot reliably achieve dimensional accuracy. When installing the anvils, their spatial position relative to the pendulum blade is ensured by an optional gauge. Anvils are subject to higher wear than supports; two-piece anvils can be cost-effectively replaced independently of other accessories. Quick-change adapter plates allow for fast adjustment of the impact point to the specimen width in the impact direction. Adjustment to specimen thickness (vertical direction) is achieved by using appropriately dimensioned supports, which can be precisely installed using locating pins. Optional accessories for the anvil include a pivoting safety shield and alignment units, which can position the specimen either at the notch or at an end face at the center of impact.
